Joe Lewis, after graduating and teaching at California Institute for the Arts, began his career in VFX joining Robert Abel and Associates to work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1978. Over the next 40 years Joe worked on many movies primarily in providing Motion Control equipment and service on the Lord of the Rings movies, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, King Kong, X-Men, Alien Resurrection, The Hobbit movies, The Fast and Furious franchise and many, many more. Joe developed the Encodacam System for Real-time Visualization on movie sets in 2001. Encodacam was first used on iRobot in 2003 and was also used on Speed Racer, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Alice in Wonderland, Hugo and as a partner with SolidTrack on Star Wars: Rogue One, The Walk, World of Warcraft and others. Encodacam technology is in use in the Broadcast Studios with NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CNBC, ESPN and the Pentagon.

Joe is an active partner with Douglas Trumbull in R & D for his HFR Magi Process.

Joe is a member of Visual Effects Society and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts.
