Cheryl Vanderbilt has over a decade of experience in production roles, including 8 years in animation and visual effects production. She has overseen projects ranging from producing weekly local television shows, award winning independent films, fulldome films, and science educational series.
With a passion for Science Storytelling, Cheryl has had the opportunity to work on several Fulldome films with the California Academy of Sciences. These Fulldome films have broken the mold of typical planetarium films, tackling subjects more earthbound - such as life processes, ecosystems, seasons, and seismology. Cheryl worked directly with scientists and researchers from around the world, identifying the most advanced data sets to create informative and engaging films.
Cheryl also has an immense love of traditional animation and storytelling, and in 2010 obtained a BFA in Animation & Visual Effects from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. While there, she managed numerous independent film projects, and became the primary liaison between the Academy of Art University and the independent filmmakers. This partnership provided students with real-world experience, networking opportunities, and breathtaking materials for their demo reels.
During her roles on these films, Cheryl managed scheduling, staffing, project budgets, accounting, legal contracts, insurance, studio operations, distribution, marketing, travel, purchasing/rentals, and even occasionally lent her artistic talents in animation, compositing, or photo FX to help complete shots.
Cheryl lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, with her husband, and surrounded by her enormous family. When not working on video or animation, you will often find Cheryl playing board games; watching sci-fi, action/adventure, witty comedies, and silver screen movie classics; traveling to Disneyland & sailing on Disney Cruises; playing piano; knitting, crocheting, sewing, and often appearing in full costume at Comic Con, movie premieres, and more.
