Shawn Hull

Working alongside the director and visual effects supervisor, I supervise a team of artists, animators, and modelers to create pre-visualization and post-visualization for film, OTT, tv, games, and commercials.

My career began as an animator and designer for television at a production studio in Northern California. During my eleven years with the company I became the Creative Director for every project ranging from animation, compositing, interactive, and print. After graduating from Animation Mentor where I studied character animation, story, and cinematography, I was hired by the top previs studio in the world, The Third Floor.

Attributes:

  • Supervising teams of artists large and small.

  • Character animation, cinematography, lighting, and story development.

  • Unreal Engine: animation, level design, lighting, and rendering.

  • Mocap and Virtual Camera pipeline pertaining to directing, capturing, and implementation.

Recently, I supervised a visualization team on an eight episodic series working alongside four distinct directors. We delivered 160 previs sequences animated in Maya and rendered in Unreal Engine. Among the sequences were select postvis and techvis shots also rendered in Unreal.

Between 2013 and 2014, I worked in Vancouver on the film Warcraft, where I hired and supervised a team of 14 artists and animators for both Previs and Postvis.

Working with Robert Zemeckis on Flight, I helped visualize challenging camera moves within the gimballed aircraft fuselage using virtual cameras inside a CG reproduction.

An original multi-camera sequence became a three minute long choreographed camera and character animation shot after presenting the idea to Alfonso Cuaron for the film Gravity.
