Sean Wicks

A career in entertainment was an obvious choice for Sean Wicks, a passionate cinema aficionado. In high school a local newspaper profiled his enthusiasm for movies (“Teen Lives in Movie Museum”), and all his early jobs were in Home Entertainment working as a clerk at various Video Rental Stores.

In 1994, Sean moved to Los Angeles to attend Columbia College – Hollywood where he graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cinema and Television.  During college, he worked at Dave’s Video: The Laser Place, a Laserdisc (and later DVD) store that was a popular spot for industry professionals and provided a unique opportunity that was almost like an extension of film school.  His professional introduction to the film business was as a Script and Story Development Intern for Producer Chuck Gordon (October Sky, Field of Dreams) at Daybreak Productions, located on the Universal Studios lot.  When on his first day he spotted Steven Spielberg and Stan Winston discussing a pair of animatronic T-Rexs on the set of The Lost World: Jurassic Park in one of the soundstages, he knew this was the career for him.

In 1997 he began work with Producer Andrew Lazar at Mad Chance, a feature film production company with a first look deal at Warner Bros., first as an Intern, then as a Development Assistant and in 1999 was promoted to the position of Creative Executive.  He collaborated with the creative team on the films: 10 Things I Hate About You, The Astronaut’s Wife, Panic, Space Cowboys, Lucky Numbers, Cats & Dogs, Death to Smoochy, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Catch That Kid and the early development stages of Get Smart and Jonah Hex.  Again, his passion for film came in handy as he evaluated scripts for production and sought out IP by digging into the Warner Bros. catalog for remake potentials, covered new book releases as well as developed original content.

Later Sean joined Creative Services at Alliance Atlantis Television in Toronto, where he supervised the production for all on-air promotions and image campaigns for eight movie-specific channels including IFC Canada.  Frequently collaborating with the marketing team due to his love of Cinema, he was an integral part of the successful launch of Showcase HD for which he received an outstanding employee recognition award.

During the recession, he became a Commercial Producer, but soon returned to his passion in motion picture story development as a Story Analyst at Amazon Studios during which he was also recruited by the Social Media manager to write a series of articles for their Hollywonk blog.

Recruited for a VFX production position at MPC in Vancouver, Canada in 2015, Sean began a new stage of his career in Visual Effects which has led to positions at Image Engine (Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV), ILM (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Bumblebee, Aquaman), Encore VFX (The Flash, Riverdale, Virgin River, Batwoman) and Zoic Studios (Charmed, The Haunting of Bly Manor).
