Lorin Wood

I was raised in a highly creative family of visual and performing artists. My love of design and illustration developed from copying my father's industrial design portfolio at a young age. He compounded my fledgling talents by exposing me to his college hero, Syd Mead. Not long after, I discovered the work of Star Wars visionaries Ralph McQuarrieJoe Johnston, and Nilo-Rodis Jamero. Their work informed me of the essential role of storytelling in visual art and design. The influence of peers and heroes continues to grow to this day.
Over two decades, I have amassed a wealth of experience in pre-production, early 3D previsualization (beginning professionally with my mentor David Dozoretz), visual effects art direction, game development, product design, and publication.
In 2009 I founded a blog, Nuthin’ But Mech, and populated it with a robust network of friends and acquaintances to provide high-quality professional artwork. The blog eventually spawned four books with publisher Design Studio Press with the artist's proceeds going to various charities and charitable causes.
At the end of 2017, I altered my professional track, and am presently back in school full-time at The University of Texas at Dallas pursuing an MFA. The intent of this parallel career in education is to use my experience to foster and inspire the rising generations of visual storytellers and designers.
In addition to school, I continue augmenting my scholastic education with professional work. Most recently I worked as a visual development artist with Sony Pictures Animation for a brief stint on the upcoming Spiderverse sequel, teaching online classes at Art Center College of Design, and continued publishing with Design Studio Press.
