The VES Board of Directors voted to bestow the Founders Award on Janet Healy at this year's Annual Membership Meeting (AMM) in the Fall.

Janet is a Founding Member of the VES, and she has served on both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

Healy started her career in live-action films, working with directors Stanley Kramer, Hal Ashby and Sam Peckinpah. She worked with Steven Spielberg on CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and 1941, serving as Associate Producer on the latter. From those films Healy began her understanding and fascination with the art of visual effects, learning about early motion control systems, optical compositing techniques and the construction and photography of complex miniature sets.

She then joined George Lucas’ visual effects company, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), as a Co-Head of Production. At ILM, Healy produced some of the era’s most groundbreaking visual effects work, including the Academy Award®-winning visual effects for TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY and JURASSIC PARK. She was instrumental in leading the industry transition from reliance on photochemical and in-camera processes to the use of the digital 2D and 3D techniques that are common place in visual effects today. During those years at ILM, Healy was also the Visual Effects Producer for GHOSTBUSTERS II, JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO, and WILLOW. While producing the digital character work for CASPER, Healy fell in love with CG character animation.

In 1995 she joined Walt Disney Feature Animation as the Head of Digital Production and oversaw the CG work on the films TARZAN, DINOSAUR and MULAN. She moved to DreamWorks Animation to serve as Head of Production for several years and, while there, produced SHARK TALE.

In 2008, Healy joined Chris Meledandri as he was beginning his new venture, Illumination Entertainment, for Universal Pictures. Along with Meledandri, Healy is the Producer of DESPICABLE ME, THE LORAX, DESPICABLE ME 2, and the upcoming films MINIONS (2015), the Untitled Pets Project (2016), DESPICABLE ME 3 (2017) and THE GRINCH WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS (2017).

Healy is also a member of the New Media Council of the PGA and has served as a member of their Board of Directors and as an Executive Board member. She currently lives in Paris and Monteaux, France
